The Connecticut Council on Developmental Disabilities Announces the availability of funds through the Consumer Involvement Fund.

The Consumer Involvement Fund (CIF) is a program that provides partial funding for individuals with developmental disabilities or their family members in Connecticut to participate in professional or informational conferences, legislative advocacy skills training events, public forums, focus groups, hearings and other similar activities. The intent of the CIF is to promote consumer involvement in activities that enhance independence, productivity and community inclusion of people with developmental disabilities. Connecticut Early Learning and Development Standards (CT ELDS)

The CT ELDS were developed through the work of the Connecticut Early Childhood Education Cabinet and its Early Learning Standards Workgroup and published by the Office of Early Childhood. In addition, over 100 state and national experts participated in some way during the development process, helping to ensure a strong and comprehensive set of Early Learning Standards for Connecticut. The CT ELDS and a document that aligns the standards with the Hawaii Early Learning Profile (HELP) can now be found on the Birth to Three website.

Now that the diagnosis of SSD has been utilized for several months and program staff have given feedback there will be a few changes to the process to expedite the child being made eligible and allow the program to ensure an audiological is completed as part of the assessment. Transition Conferences – whose job is it anyway?

Years ago we learned that Part C of the IDEA requires that the service coordinator convenes a transition conference between 9 months and 90 days before the child’s 3rd birthday. Part B of the IDEA requires that the LEA participate in that meeting. Since our compliance is measured by whether or not the conference was held on time (and not whether the LEA participated), we are the ones who must schedule and hold the conference on time.
