Childcare Funds available for Children in Shelters

The Children in Shelters Childcare Assistance Fund supports homeless families with childcare costs. Thanks to the CT Coalition to End Homelessness and generous support from the U.S. Department of Housing, this fund is continuing to accept new applications. Children in Shelters is open to families living in emergency shelters (including domestic violence shelters) or enrolled in the CT Rapid Rehousing Program. It may pay for childcare fees at a licensed facility or licensed individual provider for a child under the age of 6 and their eligible siblings, as well as transportation needs, such as bus passes or gas cards. National Child Outcomes Data 2012-2013

New Evaluation and Assessment Pathways Exam!

The exam meets the requirement for a three credit course for the Early Intervention Specialist (EIS).Birth to Three worked with Charter Oak State College to produce an Evaluation and Assessment Pathways Examination. This test was developed to enable students to earn college credit for demonstrating mastery of content knowledge equivalent to that which is learned in a full semester lower-level college course in Infant-Toddler Evaluation & Assessment. Evidence-Based Practices in Early Intervention

We are pleased to be supporting an initiative with nationally recognized presenters, Dathan Rush and M’Lisa Sheldon: “Evidence-Based Practices in Early Intervention: Use of Natural Learning Environments, Coaching, and Primary Provider Approach to Teaming”. This is a wonderful opportunity for in-depth training and collaboration with these leaders in the field including 2 webinars, a 2 day Institute, and 6 months of follow-up TA support. Applications have been emailed to all program directors and are due by August 7, 2014.

Last week Connecticut received the state’s “determination letter” from the US Dept. of Education Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP) and for the 7th year in a row… “The Department has determined that Connecticut meets the requirements of Part C of the IDEA.” That may not sound like a lot but it means a great deal. The Birth to Three System is interested in funding new community Local Interagency Coordinating Councils (LICC). Currently LICC’s exist in Danbury, Torrington and Lower Fairfield area. Connecticut’s LICCs are independent advisory bodies; therefore their internal structure is as individualized as the LICC itself. LICCs are required by statute to meet at least four times per year. Most LICCs meet more often or hold additional events on interesting topics each year. E-signatures are Okay to release child record to SSA

The Social Security Administration’s (SSA’s) secure online application and electronic medical record system use electronic signatures to indicate Parent/Guardian consent to release personal information about their child. If you are wondering if this electronic signature is acceptable to release the child’s Birth to Three records, the answer is YES. The families who get the surveys are those who have had more than six months of visits on Feb 1st each year. ICD Coding

As providers recently heard at three regional meetings, there were changes to our procedures pending that were related to the changes in the International Statistical Classification of Diseases (ICD) coding scheduled for October 1, 2014. These changes, that impact Medicaid and Commercial Insurance billing, were to take effect April 1st so we would have six months to prepare.
